Volunteer

Home-Start Ashford & District needs you!!

Home-Start Ashford & District volunteers are a diverse team of all ages (over 18), occupations and life experiences. A number of families in receipt of Home-Start support go on to become volunteers themselves where appropriate. The role of a home-visiting volunteer is to work alongside a family at their own pace and encourage them to find the type of support that is right for them. In addition to home visiting volunteers, scheme support volunteers assist the scheme’s work with families in group settings and at regular activities and workshops.

Volunteers are recruited for their friendliness and understanding of the stresses that go with family life. The volunteer preparation course gives new members a chance to get to know staff and volunteers, the Home-Start Ashford & District approach and the way we work. Similarly, it gives us a chance to get to know new volunteers and how to place them with a suitable family. The volunteer preparation course covers topics including safeguarding, confidentiality, health & safety and equality & diversity and there is lots of opportunity for group discussion.

Whilst you are supporting families on behalf of Home-Start Ashford & District you will be supervised throughout by a member of staff. Home-Start Ashford & District offers all volunteers ongoing training and support events as well as a number of social gatherings throughout the year.
